The National Irrigation Board (NIB) was established and incorporated in 1966 as a state corporation through the Irrigation Act, Cap.347 of the Laws of Kenya. The objective of this Act is “to provide for the development, control and improvement of irrigation schemes, for purposes incidental thereto and connected therewith”.

The mission of the NIB is to provide water for sustainable farming through development, rehabilitation, modernization and promotion of irrigation and drainage for improved livelihood, food security and economic growth in Kenya.

NIB projects are funded by the Government of Kenya and development partners. In addition, the Board is funding projects through, Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) and Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) funding models. Some of the NIB projects include seven (7) national irrigation schemes and stations with three operational research stations. The Board is also spearheading implementation of Galana/Kulalu Food Security Project in Tana River and Kilifi Counties. This is a National Economic Security Program aimed at putting one million acres of land under irrigated agriculture within five (5) years hence increasing food security across the country.

The NIB Board is seeking to recruit a dynamic, exceptional and visionary leader with good professional and ethical standing to fill the position of General Manager/Chief Executive Officer. The successful candidate will execute the mandate of irrigation development and improvement of irrigation schemes, ensuring growth and sustaining momentum of the transformation strategy through value addition in the food chain.

He/she will be reporting to the Board of Directors and be responsible for overseeing all the strategic, operational and financial performance of the organization through effective management of the executive leadership team.

Mandatory Requirements

The appointment will be for a contractual period of three (3) years renewable once for a similar period of time subject to satisfactory performance and delivery of set performance targets and outcomes set and evaluated by the Board.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of Kenya Constitution 2010 including;

1) Certificate of Good Conduct from the Director of Criminal Investigations;

2) Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board;

3) Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority;

4) Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission; and

5) Report from an Approved Credit Reference Bureau.
