African Leafy Vegetables
Vegetable crop value chains involves the following main groups i.e., vegetable production, transportation, and distribution, retailing or trading of vegetables, vegetable processing and value addition, exporting of vegetables, and vegetable products input suppliers. The value additions will include dried, dehydrated, frozen, preserved, juices, and pulps, frozen vegetable, dehydrated cabbage factories etc. Examples of African leafy vegetables include okra, African Nightshade (managu), and amaranthus (terere) among other popular traditional vegetables.
Exotic Vegetables
Vegetable crop value chains involves the following main groups i.e., vegetable production, transportation, and distribution, retailing or trading of vegetables, vegetable processing and value addition, exporting of vegetables, and vegetable products input suppliers. The value additions will include dried, dehydrated, frozen, preserved, juices, and pulps, frozen vegetable, dehydrated cabbage factories etc. Examples of exotic vegetables include tomatoes, kales, onion, spinach, cabbages, and coriander (‘dania’).
Dairy Goat
The value chain includes all the dairy activities and actors for both cows and goats, from production to consumption. It will include farm input suppliers (feed production and other inputs), Milk producers, milk processing and value addition, dairy products retailing and wholesaling, dairy products exporting, dairy products consumption. It will include dairy cow and goat farmers, dairy feed manufacturing and retail, all the way to retailing and consumption.
Dairy Cow
The value chain includes all dairy activities and actors for cows only, from production to consumption. It will include farm input suppliers (feed production and other inputs), Milk producers, milk processing and value addition, dairy products retailing and wholesaling, dairy products exporting, dairy products consumption. It will include dairy cow and goat farmers, dairy feed manufacturing and retail, all the way to retailing and consumption.
Indigenous Poultry
Focused on raising domesticated indigenous birds (e.g., chickens, ducks, turkeys, and geese) to produce meat or eggs. Improved indigenous poultry is additionally considered under this category. Poultry value chains link the actors and activities involved in delivering poultry and poultry products to the final consumer. A poultry chain will involve production, transport, processing, packaging and storage, and retailing. Activities such as poultry feed production will also be included.
Exotic Poultry
Exotic poultry is a form of poultry farming which raises domesticated exotic poultry birds (e.g., white leghorn and Rhode Island red) to produce meat or eggs for food. Poultry value chains link the actors and activities involved in delivering poultry and poultry products to the final consumer. A poultry chain will involve production, transport, processing, packaging and storage, and retailing. Activities such as poultry feed production will also be included.
Fish
Breeding, rearing, and transplantation of both fish and fingerlings by artificial means. The value chain includes seed producers (fish hatcheries), grow-out farmers and feed milling, logistics (transporting fish to the markets including cooling), as well as fish marketers and traders. It also includes fish processing or value addition, feed millers, retailers (food service sector or restaurants) and wholesalers. Forms of ornamental fish agribusiness nodes (verticals) will be considered under this value chain.
Beef
Rearing of different varieties of cattle for meat. The beef value chain consists of the following key stages: input/service supply, production, marketing/processing, retailing, and consumption of beef. It ranges from farmers, middlemen buying and aggregating beef animals for slaughter, slaughterhouses, dealing with all products from hides and skins and meat products, factories, distributors and retailers of beef products.
Pasture
Pasture and fodder value chain consists of but not limited to grass seed production, hay production, production of various types of fodder (green matter or dry matter), animal fattening or dairy production, marketing of hay and fodder, distribution and trading in pasture products.
Mushrooms
Growing of mushrooms for commercial selling for human consumption. Mushroom value chain is classified into input suppliers, producers, traders, processors and consumers. Mushroom processing involves modifying the products into more durable products, thus adding value to mushroom. It also includes all the actors involved in the production and commercialization of fresh mushroom, dried mushroom, mushroom juice and mushroom powder.
Pigs
Raising and breeding of domestic pigs as livestock. The pig value chain will range from pork production/farming, pig feed manufacturing and supply, other inputs supply, abattoirs or pig slaughter houses, pig products processing including use of high mechanization technology cold rooms, refrigerated transport trucks and processing equipment to differentiate cuts, pork products marketing including retailing and wholesale, export of pork products
Other Value Chains
“Other” value chain will allow accelerated incubatees who have agribusiness value chains not in the previously mentioned list to apply. All value chains and services related but not in the list will also be incubated at this category. The accelerated incubatees will be incubated on their existing agribusinesses to ensure the Program caters for would be good agribusiness cases and not directly linked with other value chains mentioned.
